Christian: Because I didn’t mention anything when I previously reviewed a sandwich with it, I am now going to tell you about my relationship with Nutella. Or as they call it on cooking shows that have to cover up the brand names of the ingredients they use so they don’t have to pay: chocolate hazelnut spread.
I heard about Nutella long before I ever tasted it. More specifically, I heard so many people in my life tell me about how delicious it is, that it skewed my expectations. Once I finally tried it, I was honestly a little disappointed. It definitely did not bring me the almost-orgasmic joy it apparently brought to those who talked it up for all that time.
Now, I will eat as many Ferrero Rocher hazelnut chocolates that you put in front of me, but I do not have the same affinity for Nutella. I think it’s okay, if overrated.
This is why I think I was surprised at how much I liked this one. The combination of the strawberry jam and the Nutella worked well together. It was a good, albeit simple, snack with the plain white toast.
I’m still not sure I can trust the palettes of those who swear by Nutella, but I’d definitely make this one again.

Susannah: I wasn’t sure I was going to like this one. I tend to not gravitate towards sweeter or more dessert-like sandwiches. I enjoy a good PB&J once in a while, but this one was jam and Nutella, sweet on sweet, on white bread. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked and wasn’t over saccharine. In the preparation, I did try to not overload the bread, but still have equal amounts of both fillings. We used a strawberry freezer jam someone had given us a while ago and had been in the freezer for who knows how long, but thankfully it thawed without issue and actually complimented the chocolate nuttiness of the Nutella. You could taste both of them, it was sweet but not overwhelming. I like that Patricia makes this as an option. I don’t think I would order very often because, again, I think it’s feels more like a dessert, but it would be a fun alternative to change it up once in a while.
