In the 2nd grade, this handsome guy’s teacher gave him an assignment to describe himself in ten different ways. Here’s what he settled on:
1. Smart
2. Funny
3. Artistic
4. Athletic
5. Dancer
6. Singer
7. Great Imagination
8. Couch Potato
9. Friendly
10. A Lady’s Man
Thirty years later, how many of these still apply?
1, 2, 7, 8 and 9: I would still use these words to describe myself.
3: I don’t draw anymore, so artistic is no longer very apt.
4: I’m not nearly as athletic as I once was, but to be honest, I don’t know how “athletic” I was in 2nd grade. That year I joined gymnastics to learn to do flips like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but I quit after three practices because they took place at the same time the TMNT cartoon aired on Saturday mornings.
5 & 6: I also don’t know how much dancing and/or singing I was doing back then, either. And I haven’t really picked those skills up in all the years since.
10: Was I a bad speller back then or just really committed to monogamy as a seven-year-old? Regardless, I will say that I am no longer “a lady’s man” as my heart now belongs to two ladies: my beautiful, supportive wife, and my hilarious, wonderful daughter.
